hey call it "The Roller Coaster Bridge", its real name is The Eshima Ohashi Bridge, "the steepest bridge in the world": it reaches 44 meters in height and is 1.7 km long. It connects the cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato. Built between 1997 and 2004, it is the largest rigid frame bridge in Japan and the third largest in the world. It reaches a gradient of 6.1%. It seems that the Japanese engineers had the goal of building a bridge that would allow fishing boats to pass on their way to the open sea. Only, on Matsue's side, there wasn't enough room to allow for a gentler descent of the road. Thus, the engineers had no choice but to create a very steep structure, which is intimidating just to look at.
